Auto-hide browser toolbars

Automatically hiding the browser’s toolbars gives all the available space in the Vivaldi window to the page content. Whether the window is maximised or not. It’s great for those browsing on smaller screens and those, who prefer a more minimalist, distraction free experience.

Toggle UI Auto-hide on and off

To enable and disable Auto-hide, use one of the following methods:

Accessing toolbars when Auto-hide is enabled

To access the toolbars and the Panel when the toolbars are hidden:

  1. Move the mouse cursor to the edge of the browser window.
  2. Interact with the toolbar, e.g. switch tabs, open a bookmark, change the site’s zoom level.
  3. When you’re done, move the mouse cursor back over to the page content or outside the browser window.

Alternatively, use Keyboard Shortcuts, Quick Commands or Mouse Gestures to focus on the toolbars and panels you want to use.

Auto-hide settings

It’s up to you whether you want to hide all toolbars or just some of them.

You can toggle the visibility of the following toolbars:

To select which toolbars to hide:

  1. Go to Settings > Appearance > UI Auto-Hide and tick the box for Enable UI Auto-hide.
  2. Keep enabled the toolbars you want to hide and disable the toolbar options that you want to always keep visible.

Always use Auto-hide in Fullscreen

When you go into fullscreen mode, for example, to watch a video, you won’t be able to interact with the browser’s user interface. But by making use of the Auto-hide feature, even when you don’t use Auto-hide normally, you can make the toolbars appear by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.

To enable Auto-hide in fullscreen mode:

  1. Go to Settings > Appearance > UI Auto-Hide.
  2. Enable Always use Auto-hide in Fullscreen.

Security implications

If you enable autohide of the address field, then a malicious web page can show you a fake address field when you interact with it. To make sure you can recognize your real Address Field, we suggest making some changes to your address bar, so that it is uniquely yours. These changes could be:
