Discover which features are available in Vivaldi on Android’s Panels and how to access them.

To take a screenshot of the web page you’re viewing on your mobile use Vivaldi’s built-in Capture tool.

Capturing a page

To capture a screenshot of the current page, open the Vivaldi menu > Capture Page.

Select between the following two options:

• Capture only the visible area,
• Capture the full web page (some web page length restrictions may apply).

The screenshot will be saved to your pictures in a folder named Vivaldi Captures.

Long screenshot

In addition to the visible area and full page capture, there’s a third option – long screenshot, where you determine the size of the captured area. To take a long screeshot:

1. Go to the Vivaldi menu > Share.
2. Select Long screenshot from the bottom row of options.
3. Drag the arrows on the top and bottom to resize the screenshot.
4. Tap on the Capture button in the bottom right corner.
5. From the options select whether you want to edit, save, share or delete the capture.

Use Notes to quickly add checklists, agenda items or facilitate a research project without the disruption of switching apps.

Viewing Notes

To view and manage your Notes:

1. Open Panels from the left side of the bottom toolbar;
2. Swipe left to Notes (between History and Downloads) or tap on the Notes icon.
3. Tap on a note to view the full note.

Creating a new note

To create a new note:

1. Tap on the Add Note button in the bottom right corner;
2. Enter the note text. The note will be saved automatically;
3. When you’re finished, tap on the Back button in the top left corner to return to the list of notes.

To discard the new note, tap on Delete in the top right corner.

Creating a new Note from a web page

To make a note of something you found on a web page:

1. Select the text you want to turn into a note;
2. In the menu that appears, choose Copy to Note.

The note will be added to the folder you viewed last.

Append to note

To add more content to an existing note:

1. Select the text you want to add to a note.
2. In the menu that appears, tap on the 3-dot menu for additional options.
3. Select Append to note.
4. Select the note you want to add the new text to.
5. To finish, tap on the checkmark, that turned blue on note selection, in the top right corner.

Creating a new Notes folder

To create a new folder for your Notes:

1. Select the note or notes you want to group under a folder and tap on the Move button.
2. Tap on New Folder.
3. Give the folder a name and choose a parent folder.
4. Tap on the Back button in the top left corner to create the folder and exit the dialogue.

Editing Notes

To edit a note:

1. Tap on the note you wish to edit.
2. Make the changes. They’ll be saved automatically.
3. When you’re finished, tap on the Back button in the top left corner to return to the list of notes.

To rename a note:

1. Long-press on a note in the Notes list to select it.
2. Tap on the Edit button.
3. Rename the note.
4. Tap on Save.

Moving notes

To move a note to a different folder:

• Long press on the note(s) you wish to relocate.
• Tap the  Move button, to select an existing folder or create a new one.

Deleting Notes

To delete a note, open the note and tap on Delete in the top right corner.

To delete multiple notes at once:

1. Long press on the first note and then tap on the other notes you wish to delete.
2. Tap on Delete in the top right corner.

Installing Vivaldi from Google Play

To install Vivaldi on your Android device:

1. Open the Google Play app.
2. Search for Vivaldi Browser.
3. Tap on Install.
4. Once it has finished loading, tap Open.
5. Go through the onboarding flow, accept the Terms of Use and you’re ready to go.

The oldest Android version Vivaldi is supported on is Android 10 – Quince Tart.

Alternative download sources

Vivaldi on Android is also available on:

• Huawei App Gallery,
• Uptodown App Store,
• Google Play in Polestar 2 Android Automotive OS, and
• Google Play in Renault OpenR Link.

In case you don’t want to get Vivaldi from an app store, you can download the .apk version of Vivaldi from Vivaldi.com/android (click Don’t have Google Play? below the Google Play button).

Updating the mobile browser

The app will be updated silently in the background when you have automatic updates enabled in Play Store > account menu (top right corner) > Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update apps. You can tell that the app has been updated to a new version, when Android’s What’s New page is opened in a new tab.

In case you have automatic updates disabled:

Option 1

1. Open the Google Play app.
2. Open the account menu > Manage apps & device > Manage.
3. Find Vivaldi on the list.
4. Tap on Update.

Option 2

1. Search for Vivaldi on Google Play.
2. Open the app’s profile.
3. Tap on Update.

Uninstalling the browser

To uninstall Vivaldi:

Option 1

1. Find Vivaldi in your app gallery or home screen.
2. Long-press on the app logo.
3. Tap on Uninstall.

Option 2

1. Open your device’s Settings > Apps.
2. Find Vivaldi on the list.
3. Tap on Uninstall.

Option 3

1. Search for Vivaldi on Google Play.
2. Open the app’s profile.
3. Tap on Uninstall.

Widevine is a “Content Decryption Module” (CDM) that provides Vivaldi with support for Encrypted Media Extensions (EME). EME are a form of Digital rights management (DRM) that are required by many, popular audio/video streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Tidal, etc.).

Testing support

To test Widevine support, go to demo.castlabs.com and attempt to play the videos that are tagged with “DRM”.

Installing Widevine

If DRM videos will not play:

1. Open vivaldi://components
2. Locate: “Widevine Content Decryption Module”
3. Click “Check for updates”

Troubleshooting

If the DRM test video will still not play, file a bug report stating that you cannot play proprietary media. Mention your Operating System (including architecture and version).

Working with browser windows in Vivaldi is straightforward. This article explains some important terms and actions.

Opening windows

To open a new window:

• Go to the Vivaldi menu (Windows and Linux) > File  > New Window;
• Type ‘New Window‘ in Quick Commands;
• Right-click on Vivaldi on the OS toolbar and select New Window;
• Use the Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl+N / ⌘ N;
• Create a Mouse Gesture for opening a new window.

Opening links in new windows

To open a link or a Bookmark in a new window, right-click on the link and select Open Link in New Window or Open Link in a Private Window.

Closing windows

To close a window:

• Click on the X in the top right corner (left corner on macOS) of the window;
• Go to the Vivaldi menu (Windows and Linux) > File  > Close Window;
• Use the Keyboard Shortcut Alt+F4 / ⌘ W;
• Create a Mouse Gesture for Close Window.

Closing confirmation

By default when you close a window, you’ll be asked to confirm your decision. You can disable this option by checking the box Do not show confirmation again next time you see the dialog window or disable/enable it in Settings > General > Close Window > Close Window Confirmation.

Exiting the browser

To close all windows and exit the browser:

• On Windows and Linux go to the Vivaldi menu > File  > Exit. On macOS Vivaldi > Quit Vivaldi;
• On Windows right-click on Vivaldi on the OS toolbar and select Close Window / Close All Windows.
  On Linux right-click on Vivaldi on the OS toolbar and select Quit / Quit # Windows;
  On macOS right-click on Vivaldi on the dock and select Quit;
• Use a Keyboard Shortcut Alt+F4 (Windows) / Ctrl+Q (Linux) / ⌘ Q (macOS) to close all windows and exit;
• Create a Mouse Gesture for Exit.

Exit confirmation

On Windows and Linux, there’s also an exit confirmation option, which you’ll see when you’re about to close the last open window. You can also disable this option by checking the box Do not show confirmation again next time you see the dialog window or disable/enable it in Settings > General > Exit > Exit Confirmation.

Reopening recently closed windows

The Closed Tabs button, located at the far end of the Tab Bar and in the Window Panel, contains a list of previously closed Tabs and windows within the latest session.

To reopen a window:

• Open the Closed Tabs menu;
• Select Window with # Tabs and;
• Click on Restore All to open all Tabs or on a single Tab on the list to open a specific Tab.

It’s also a good place to look for your Tabs and windows if, for some reason, the browser didn’t open with your previous session (after a crash for example). Please note that multiple browser restarts will erase the Close Tabs history.

For a complete overview of visited pages, visit History by:

• Going to Vivaldi menu > Tools > History menu;
• Clicking History on the top menu on the Start Page, or
• Using the Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl+H / ⌘ Y.

Private windows

To open a new private window:

• Go to the Vivaldi menu (Windows and Linux) > File  > New Private Window;
• Type ‘New Private Window‘ in Quick Commands;
• Use the Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl+Shift+N / ⌘ Shift N;
• Right-click on Vivaldi on the OS toolbar and select New Private Window;
• Create a Mouse Gesture for opening a new private window.

Moving Tabs between windows

To move a Tab to another window:

• Right-click on it on the Tab Bar, hover over Move Tab To and select either a New Window or Window with # Active Tabs;
• Place the browser windows so you can see both and drag the Tab from one Tab Bar to another.

To move an Active Tab to a new window, create a Keyboard Shortcut or Mouse Gesture for the action.

It’s also possible to move multiple tabs at once. Select the tabs, right-click on one of the selected tabs and choose where to move them.

Native windows

To enable the Native Window:

1. Go to Settings > Appearance > Window Appearance
2. Enable Use Native Window.
3. Restart the browser.

Using the Native window allows you to:

• Integrate Vivaldi with the rest of your operating system’s user interface.
• Use OS-based window controls.
• Display the Active Tab’s full title.
• Make use of macOS’ Split View feature.

Tile apps with window split view

Many modern operating systems have made it easy to tile different apps and windows on the screen.

To tile Vivaldi with other apps on Windows:

1. Hover over the maximize button in the top right corner.
2. Select your preferred tiling option.

You can also click on the Tab Bar or the native window’s title bar and drag the window to different points on the edge of the screen to snap the window to a grid.

To tile Vivaldi with other apps on macOS:

1. Hover over the maximize button in the top left corner.
2. Select your preferred tiling option.

On Linux, tiling windows and apps depends on the distro’s window manager, but many allow snapping to a tiled grid by dragging the window or using keyboard shortcuts.
